The Knox Family
Matt is the second of five kids, his family moved around a lot during his life. He has lived in 4 different states and attended 12 different schools from kindergarten to graduation! When he graduated from high school he went to OSU for a year and then attended some classes at Shawnee state university. He then transferred to Liberty university just trying to figure out what he wanted to do. Finally, he decided to join the Marine Reserves. He went to Boot camp and then got stationed in Virginia. He moved to Arizona in January 2008 and joined a church called Praxis (now Redemption) in Tempe. Being in the reserves meant he only had to report for duty one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. So, he used his GI bill to enroll into Le Cordon Bleu Culinary school.
Deborah is the second of three kids, her dad was a traveling minister and she has been all over the United states and the world. Because they were always in a different place, Deborah was home-schooled all the way through high school. She decided to go to college in Arizona near where her sister and brother in law were living. She graduated with a double major in Education and Biblical studies. Soon after she was invited to attend church with a friend in Tempe. (You guess it, the church was Praxis!)
Matt and Deborah met in November 2010 at a Bible Study hosted by Praxis church. Towards the end of December, Deborah was in a bad wreck that totaled her car. On the morning of New Years Eve she had to go to the junk yard to get her things and hand over the title. Her friend Kayla gave her a ride and Matt met them there to help out. As a thank you, Deborah took these two friends out to lunch. Deborah was planning to go to a game night that evening and invited Matt to come along. They officially started dating two weeks later, got engaged in July and were married November 3rd, 2011. They went to England for their honeymoon and specifically focused on trying all the signature foods! In October 2013 they welcomed twins Hunter and Aiden into the world. On December 1st they moved from Arizona to Ohio to live near grandparents and so Matt could go back to school. Deborah became a stay at home mom and started homeschooling the boys while Matt got a degree in Environmental Engineering and one in Religion and Philosophy. In August of 2018 they added another baby boy, Dean, to the family. Fast forward to Spring 2020 in the midst of covid-19 and self quarantining, Matt had the idea for Our World Table. They wanted a way to connect with people over their love of cooking and travel and immediately got to work!
